What words inspire you?

“Too many of us are hung up on what we don't have, can't have, or won't ever have. We spend too much energy being down, when we could use that same energy – if not less of it – doing, or at least trying to do, some of the things we really want to do.”
― Terry McMillanDisappearing Acts

From quote of the day from Good Reads, I felt it was one quote we could all appreciate. A big fan of quotations personally I find they often offer inspiration, courage, hope, and advice to us in a way we all interpret differently.

Many times internet biographies of people will include "favorite quotations" such as Facebook.

I have a few myself, one being
"Life is too important to be taken seriously" - Oscar Wilde.

What is your favorite quote? If you don't have one, go to a resource such as Good Reads and browse their quotes section. Find one that really sticks out to you - one you can relate to. Sometimes they are so close to our hearts we could have sworn that the quote was written about us.

What are some words you live by?

Post some quotes to share with everyone - I personally read different quotes daily and love to hear new ones. I even asked for others to share recommendations of good quotations books with me on Good Reads

Here are some quotes for you to enjoy:

Good Karma & Gift Giving :)

Inspiration from "Gift Ideas for Good Karma" via Astrology.com

Horoscope readings are either spot on "how did they know?" accurate or just plain wrong. Read about your sign... if most of what is said could be true of yourself, then you are most likely going to get accurate readings. It varies person to person.

But even if you don't believe in the whole horoscope hype, that doesn't mean the word "karma" has no meaning to you. Its meaning is also quite varied, depending on whom you ask.

A simple, universal way to define karma would be in terms of a theory. The basic theory is 'cause and affect'. The laws decide what affect is beget from a given cause. Karma is the 'cause' part of this theory. In other words, your actions - mental, vocal and physical are your Karma (plural).

Not only is it nice to do things for others, it also makes us feel good to do them. Karma perhaps? Well the whole idea and my friends support inspired me, to make her a couple homemade gifts. Even if I had the money to buy her whatever she wanted, a homemade gift has a lot more meaning to it than something I just bought in a store.

Sentimental value means more to some of us than material value, so the same concept applies here. Making something yourself shows you spent time thinking about that other person - what they like, their personality, etc.

If you have a friend who needs some cheering up or just need a quick, but thoughtful gift idea break out the arts and crafts supplies! If you don't have an arts and crafts supply "area", now is a good time to start one. You can put whatever you want in it to use for future projects. This is also a great way to recycle.

Some ideas of what to stash in your craft "spot":

- Paint
- Beads
- Iron on patches or letters
- Fabric
- Paper/Cardboard
- Scraps of wood
- Glue
- Glitter

you get the hint...

Sit down and think about the person receiving your gift. What would make them smile? If you are absolutely stumped "Google it". I will use Google image search if I need inspiration sometimes. For example, I need a spice rack (which I have yet to settle on a design). Google image search is a quick way to browse through many different DIY project ideas.

Whatever you settle on, put some time and effort in it and you are sure to make someones day. And that in itself will make you feel good in return.

This post is dedicated to the little baby growing inside a certain someones belly :) Thanks for everything, I'm lucky to have a friend like you in my life and am so happy for you and your future little tater tot.

The #1 ALL ESSENTIAL Task Management Device

Know your history: Repeat good tracks and you'll end up working faster and smarter
What you should be using..
Or perhaps already do.

The ever ALMIGHTY "TO DO LIST"
"to do list"

After months of experimenting with program after application after website,  the standard "to do list" is the clear cut choice when looking for a task management tool. It just cannot be replaced, even with all the choices available out there. I couldn't stick to any of the ones I tried - but when I tweaked with the basic "to do list" I was able to achieve my objectives... with ease.

Here are some things to take into consideration when you create your next "to do list"...

- Concentrate on three main goals or objectives on your list. These are you three most important goals for the list.
* Create a new list each day.

- Concentrate on three things when making a "to do list":
1. Realistic prioritisation of the tasks.
2. Break down big tasks into smaller achievable ones.
3. Making a new list every day.

Take into consideration Pareto's 80/20 Rule;
80% of results come from 20% of efforts
* Roughly one in five of the items on your list is truely essential.
* Remember one big task may require many smaler tasks in order to complete it.

- Spend the end of your "work time" compiling tomorrows list rather than cleaning up your workspace.
It's much better to greet the new day with a messy desk and a clear head than the other way around...
Create a "to do list" that suits your needs... here are some from the internet to give you some ideas:
Accomplish List
To Do Today
Things To Do List
To Do List with Categories
You'll never forget what "to do" with this one!

You don't need a fancy or even an elaborate list.
Clearly state your goals and if it is helpful add details or smaller tasks or goals onto the days main objectives.
Whether you make your list on the computer or with the old fashioned pen and paper, make sure it is handy and can be referenced throughout the day.
Cross out your tasks as you complete them and reward yourself when you complete your entire list. Good luck!

Is Shaving Worth the Time and Effort?

Is Shaving Worth the Time and Effort?
For Some Women, Being Hairy is More Practical Than Political - Reported from Alternet

is shaving worth the time?

I was weeding through my email that I had missed due to my absence last week. Quickly scanning through my news headlines (I receive daily from a couple of sources) my eyes caught the headline of this article.

"Wait... did I just see.... yeah.... "

I wondered what this could possibly be about as I mulled over the headline, Shaving: Worth your time? It seemed to ask a question whose answer was quite obvious. Right?

Not necessarily.

To be honest, there is nothing really even compelling about this article. The headline is the most intriging part of the whole thing. It tells of a normal girl who grows up not wanting to go with society's norms that tell us that women should shave their legs.

I grew up in a "different" type of family than most people my age. My parents lived through the sixties and were at the age where they could indulge in the festivities so to speak during that era. My parents are pretty much hippies... still.

Anyways, I was around 15 when I finally got the balls up to ask my Mom if I could shave. Yes, I asked her. Kind of a foreign concept nowadays, but I knew it showed her I respected her because talked about everything and she would rather I don't shave at all.

My mother actually asked me why I wanted to shave my legs... she said I was too young and the hair was nothing to be embarrassed about.

Try telling that to all my hairless friends.

Now that I look back I can reflect upon just how huge an impact society has on the way we act, even  when we are young... still kids.

I did take a few good things away from my upbringing - that I have no room to make judgement on others for being different. So in high school when one of my girlfriends revealed to me that she wasn't shaving her legs anymore I didn't act any differently towards her. Why would I? Because society says hairy legs are not feminine? I don't think so. I was brought up to think for myself. (Which some people find very hard to deal with!)

To conclude my review/story as it pertains to the subject of whether women should shave or not...

Your legs don't define who you are, and although this article (and my review of it) are rather irrelevant, there is a lesson to be learned.

Treat people with respect, don't judge them, because who is to say you are any better?

And never think just because society's image is depicted a certain way that you must follow it.

Rules were made to be broken.

More power to ya ;)

The United States Prison System

Thank you to AlterNet for sharing this YouTube video. This is an important, yet often overlooked issue in our country today.

Many people feel that people are imprisoned for wrong doings not worthy of imprisonment. And the length of sentences is also up for debate. Mandatory minimum sentencing puts everyday citizens behind bars for extended periods of time - costing the US more money than what would be a more reasonable budget.

Whatever your viewpoint is, you need to watch this video.
